Turning your phone into a Walkie-Talkie?

The Sonnet looks to help break your phone from the barriers of wifi and cellular network. This small device has the ability to turn your phone into a “Super Walkie-Talkie”.

Why you should care:

Lets start off with the basics. The main concept behind sonnet is to connect with others that have a sonnet. When buying the product, you get two sonnets for the price of $89. Your device connects to the sonnet through wifi and then is able to connect to other peoples sonnets through long-range radio. When connected to other sonnets you then open the sonnet app on your phone and you are all set. From there you can send messages, images, voice recordings, and your location to the other person. The best part is that there is no monthly subscription to pay when connecting to the sonnet’s wifi.

The sonnet can reach a range of up to 3 miles(5 km). If there is a line of sight between both sonnets than the range goes up to 9 miles. The sonnet also uses a mesh network strategy that increases the range a sonnet can travel once it connects to another sonnet. The sonnet connection can be relayed up to 16 times and can reach a range up to 50 miles. One of the coolest features the sonnet also offers is the ability to share internet. If one sonnet has internet, it can share internet with all the other sonnets connected.

Some other features  included are offline maps, an SOS mode, and a built in 4000 mAh battery that can be used to charge up your phone. The sonnet is also designed with a water and dust resistant unibody to survive in the outdoors.

The sonnet is a device that can be used by many different types of people. The first type of person that comes to mind is someone who goes hiking or backpacking. This is a great alternative for carrying a bulky walkie-talkie around. This device doesn’t have to be for outdoorsy people only. The device can be used at big conferences or concerts where cellular connection may be unusable or too slow. It could be used in international countries or natural disaster events. The possibilities are endless.
